FAQs

What type of paint is used for line marking?

The type of paint used for line marking depends on the job. Common options include aerosol line marking paints and liquid paints which are further diluted with water. Liquid line marking paints are extensively used in pitch or athletic track markings with options for turf, artificial surfaces or shale being offered. Whereas white is by far the most popular there are some colour options available if preferred.

How do you use line marking paint?

To use line marking paint, start by selecting the appropriate paint for the surface, such as for grass or artificial turf. Next, prepare the area by mowing the grass short, removing any debris and ensuring the surface is dry before applying the paint. Then, measure and mark the lines accurately using measuring tapes and string lines. Next, you’ll need a line marking paint applicator. If using a machine, attach the paint container and push the machine along the marked path to create straight lines. Alternatively, you can use a roller or wide brush to apply the paint by hand, making sure to maintain consistent pressure for even coverage. Finally, allow the paint to dry completely before the field is used.

How long does line marking paint last?

The lifespan of line marking paint varies depending on several factors such as the type of paint used, weather conditions, traffic and how well the surface is prepared. On average, high quality line marking can last anywhere from several months to several years. However, factors like rain, sun and heavy traffic can cause markings to fade more quickly, particularly in areas with high foot or vehicle traffic. Grass growth can also affect visibility, as the lines may become obscured over time. Regular maintenance, including repainting and adjusting lines as needed, helps keep markings clear and visible.
